Using Technology and AI to Open More Doors to Literacy

Technology has the power to transform education when it is designed around children, not the other way around. At Beyond 47, we are proud to support local schools in using Wingu Soma, an innovative literacy platform that combines evidence-based teaching with technology and AI to help every child build confidence, develop literacy skills and learn at their own pace.

Using Technology and AI to Open More Doors to Literacy

Learning to read opens the door to education, confidence and independence. Yet every child learns differently, and many benefit from teaching approaches that are flexible, visual and personalised.

At Beyond 47, we are committed to helping more children with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities access quality learning opportunities. That is why we are pleased to support local schools in their use of Wingu Soma. This innovative literacy platform combines evidence-based teaching with technology and artificial intelligence to personalise learning.

Designed for children from the early years through primary school, Wingu Soma uses visual-first learning, short, focused activities and personalised learning pathways to help children build literacy skills at their own pace. Lessons are available in both English and Swahili, supporting children as they develop vocabulary, phonics, sentence reading and early comprehension.

What makes Wingu Soma particularly exciting is its thoughtful use of AI. Rather than replacing teachers, the platform analyses each learner's progress and provides insights that help teachers identify the most appropriate next steps. This enables more personalised support while allowing teachers to remain at the heart of every child's learning journey.

At Beyond 47, we believe technology should be used to expand opportunities, not create barriers. When thoughtfully designed, digital tools can help teachers respond to individual learning needs, celebrate progress and ensure every child has the chance to develop their potential.

By supporting schools in accessing innovative resources such as Wingu Soma, we hope to see more children experience the confidence and joy that come with learning to read, one small step at a time.
